What is a Third Place?
Society's Living Room
Sociologist Ray Oldenburg coined the term "Third Place" to refer to a place that is neither home nor work, a place where communities can be strengthened, ideas exchanged, and relationships built. A Third Place is essentially anywhere you meet people in your city that isn't your First or Second Place. Those pickup basketball games - Third Place, those Yoga classes in someone's backyard - Third Place, those second hand clothing swaps at the local cafe - Third Place.
